The challenge
Following MINI’s integration into BMW Group and BMW Group’s assumption of responsibility for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, technical leaders were deployed from Munich to the UK to transfer specialist knowledge, assure quality and align operational processes.
From 2016 to 2020, Marina Ibrahim served as Lead Intercultural Consultant, Coach and Trainer, supporting a two-part German–British cultural integration programme.
The two-part programme
1. Leaders and UK teams
Marina prepared leaders to navigate German–British differences in communication, leadership, feedback and decision-making—helping them build trust, value local expertise and transfer knowledge without creating an “HQ versus local” divide.
2. Partners and families
Marina delivered more than 100 International Partner Support Programmes, helping spouses and families manage culture shock, rebuild confidence and purpose, establish new routines and networks, and pursue employment, study or business opportunities.
The impact
No assignment failures among those supported
Participant ratings consistently between 90% and 100%
Stronger German–British leadership and collaboration
Reduced people-related risk surrounding costly international assignments
Commercial insight: Successful international integration requires support for the complete system—the leader, the receiving team and the family.
